Here you will find synopses of past game sessions for Unto the Third Generation. In writing them, I tried to remove as much of the skew toward my own character's point of view as possible, but I know that I am missing some events, because I was dealing with something for my character while they were happening. I welcome other players to email me and fill me in on any important goings-on that I missed, or anything I've gotten wrong.
The first episode
of Unto the Third Generation. The Cast: The game started
with all of us either in Amber, or being brought to Amber. Those of
us who had never been there before were given tours of the castle by
members of House Florimel, which included some background information
on the Houses of Amber and the like, and then left to our own devices. We were all
sent invitations to the coronation of Martin, who was being placed on
the throne after the disappearance of his father, Random, some time
before. Prior to the event, a number of us were in the throne room,
and Ophelia overheard a fight in a room behind the throne, and went
to investigate, trailed by Valentine and Cinder. After hearing a crash
from the other side of the door, Cinder weakened its structure so that
we could push it down. Inside we found Dworkin and Martin dead. We were
quickly pushed out of the room by Benedict, who informed us that the
coronation would go on, with a shapeshifter taking Martin's place. Cinder
volunteered for the job, and others of us were recruited to make sure
that all went as planned. Tandra and Ophelia were appointed his bodyguards. At the beginning
of the coronation, Flora made a little speech, and then Aoife, as the
oldest Amberite, set the crown on "Martin's" head. As soon
as she did, he disappeared, and Aoife and Ophelia fell down. Moments
later, "Martin's" head reappeared, but the rest of him did
not. Aoife and Ophelia were incapacitated, and Valentine was frozen
in place. At that point,
Llewella, her son Jonas, daughter Scylla and a guy who looked like Caine
came in. Llewella didn't want Martin on the throne, and neither did
Benedict. However, Benedict also didn't like Llewella's suggestion that
she take the throne for the time being. People tried to figure out where
the Pattern swords have gone. Finally Benedict allowed for dual regency.
Valentine volunteered, saying that she would make no claim on it once
a proper heir was found. To appease Llewella, they nominated her granddaughter
for the other half... Ophelia. At the end of the game, Shara still had Greyswandir, and others were still unaccounted for, including Flora.
The
Cast: The second session
of UTG began with the Co-Regents, Valentine and Ophelia, hearing audiences
and meeting new arrivals to Castle Amber, later on the same day of the
fateful coronation attempt. The heard from Aoife, who suggested the
missing Flora might be able to spy on them through the plants in the
castle, so all plants were removed. Among the new arrivals presented
were Percival and Azreal. Lily was presented later, at dinner, during
which there was a sudden explosion. Upon investigation,
Aoife was found picking shards of a scrying bowl out of herself, after
blowing through an upper wall of the castle. Valentine and Ophelia took
her out of the courtyard and found out that she had been seeking Random
when the moon came down and filled her bowl, which they assumed was
what caused the explosion. Valentine, Ophelia,
and Aoife went to Random's office, and then to his bedroom, where they
found Percival and Azreal. Valentine and Ophelia were then informed
that Gerard was dead, so Ophelia had to go find Percival and Azreal
and bring them back to see the body. Ophelia then went and talked to
the new arrival that the Regents had been informed of earlier, Meredith.
Ophelia discovered that Meredith and Lily had most of the pieces of
Aoife's bowl, and Meredith was attempting to reassemble it, so Ophelia
brought Aoife to her, then went to find Valentine again. Ophelia informed
her about Meredith, and then was left on her own when Valentine went
to go tell Jason that his father (Gerard) was dead. Ophelia realized
that Shara was missing, a fact that was confirmed by the servants. She
then went in search of Meredith again, finding it suspicious that she
had been in the castle as long as Ophelia had (about three days), but
hadn't seen her at all. When questioned about it, Meredith revealed
that she had witnessed the murders of Martin and Dworkin, and that she
could travel through mirrors. Ophelia walked
Meredith back to her rooms and discovered Percival and Azreal in there,
looking for Gerard's killer. Ophelia ordered them out, and madness ensued. In the end, Jason was killed and Shara destroyed, and Aoife was thrown through a wall and is plunging off a cliff. (Somewhere in the midst of the madness, Lily performed some sort of experiment on Aoife which resulted in her being unable to speak. When she tried, only light came out.) All of the mirrors (and anything else glass) in the castle were shattered with a scream, which was fine with Valentine, who was paranoid about them to begin with.
The Black Road 2003 -- Interlude This session was an interlude, in which the main plot was largely pushed to the wayside. It didn't occur in Amber, although some people remained there and spent the session redecorating House Clarissa's wing of the castle. The Cast: At the start
of the game, Ophelia recruited a posse to accompany her out into shadow
to attend her younger sister's wedding, which included Aoife, Tandra,
and Ana (who wasn't recruited, but volunteered, and would have gone
whether Ophelia said she could or not. Very dedicated, that one.) When
they arrived in Ophelia's home shadow, however, they discovered that
the wedding had become a funeral - Ophelia's. They went in search of
Christabel, who was apparently the one who killed Ophelia, and in the
process killed Malachi, Ophelia's former lover, who she was still rather
in love with. They did manage to kill Christabel, and in the process,
acquired the Jewel of Judgment. They then headed off to kill Puck, who
was associated with Auberon, another Amberite, so that shadows stopped
melting together. At the end of the this game, Aoife (now no longer hurtling off a cliff) has once again disappeared... she's invisible. And she still can't talk. Ophelia is trying to attune herself to the Jewel of Judgment, although she doesn't know how... and then she needs to go talk to Valentine. |
